Nightmares: Creepy Insomnia is a level-based game where the difficulty increases as you progress. The higher you go, the more houses you encounter, and they are often placed in more distant or challenging locations. When the world falls asleep, Nightmare, an invisible ghost, emerges. Dressed in a black cape and adorned with a crescent moon necklace, Nightmare is only visible through a pair of wild white eyes beneath his hat. Behind him looms a pale white crescent moon, as large as a person. As the player spreads nightmares across villages, skull-shaped apparitions fly from his staff and descend upon the unsuspecting homes below.

The Haunting Atmosphere

The entire village is enveloped in darkness and mist. Once nightmares are spread into a house, the lights inside are replaced by a pale blue glow. The terrified inhabitants rush out, creating a chaotic scene of shadows darting around. The game features a time column represented by a blue-white arc, with three stars positioned near its end. Players must reach certain milestones to earn rewards. If the player completes the level quickly, the time column decreases, moving closer to the gift box and reducing the number of stars. Failing to meet the time requirement means replaying the level to earn enough stars.

Medieval and Diverse Architectural Settings

The game’s setting is inspired by medieval European architecture, with houses reflecting ancient styles and designs. As players level up, the city expands, introducing a variety of structures such as castles with pointed roofs and Japanese-style thatched-roof wooden houses. Towers are connected by lines of pale blue light, and every scene is shrouded in darkness with flickering lights. Once the villagers flee, ghosts hover around the buildings, signaling that the village has been overtaken by horror.

Strategic Gameplay and Support Skills

Simply clicking on houses may suffice in smaller villages, but as the city grows, players need to employ strategic skills to succeed. Nightmares: Creepy Insomnia offers support skills to aid players. For instance, a ghost-shaped button summons a giant ghost to scare the entire village at once. A hand-shaped button causes hands to emerge from the ground, pulling houses underground and making them disappear. A smoke-shaped button releases a pale green mist over the village, frightening the villagers, though less intensely than the ghost.

Upgrading Nightmare’s Abilities

Nightmare’s black cape and jewelry are more than just aesthetic; they contain parameters that enhance his abilities. Upgrading the cape and jewelry increases stats such as attack power, hypnosis, and speed. While the crescent moon necklace remains the primary accessory, there are other necklaces and scepters available, each with unique designs. These items can be purchased using crescent moon coins earned in the game.

The Nightmare Archive

Adjacent to the village area is the Nightmare Archive, shaped like a birdcage. Clicking here transports players to a confinement area where bird cages hang from a large, ancient tree. Inside these cages are various characters, including a unicorn, Santa Claus, a mermaid, and a war dragon with closed wings. At the top of the tree, a pure white dove is locked in a glass cage. All these characters are ghosts under Nightmare’s control, adding to the eerie atmosphere of the game.
